The Free2Play hit ArcheAge from South Korea caused a stir toward the end of the year. November 2014 also saw the release of the WoW expansion, Warlords of Draenor, which at least offered a strong campaign, even if the endgame was disappointing.

After a 7-year drought, 2021 finally looks like the year that new AAA MMORPGs will be released here in 2021. With Lost Ark and New World, two top-class games are about to be released in Europe. #10 Hytale - TOP10 NEW MMORPGS 2021

With the scale of a sandbox and the depth of an RPG, players are immersed in a procedurally generated world where tumbling towers and deep dungeons promise rich loot. Designed with creative players in mind, Hytale's engine supports everything from block-by-block castle construction to scripting and customization, all with easy-to-use and powerful tools.

"Hytale is an ambitious project and we have set high standards for ourselves. But the bar has been raised a good deal again by the response from the community. Honestly, we didn't expect such an intense analysis as we received, and we are aware of the great risks that eagerly awaited games had to deal with in the past. (...) Regarding the size of the project and this high bar we want to reach, we plan for each of you to be able to play Hytale in 2021. We are aware that it is a longer wait than many of you expected. However, we feel that we owe it to the players to make the best game possible. It's important to be realistic about all the things this will take to achieve that."

#9 Corepunk - TOP10 NEW MMORPGS 2021

At the end of the year, a new MMORPG called Corepunk will be released by Studio Artificial, which seems particularly unusual with exciting gameplay and a colorful mix of genres and styles. In a sense, a mix of fantasy, post-apocalypse and steampunk can be discerned, and a combination of League of Legends, Diablo and Cyberpunk 2077 with a pinch of the former MMORPG WildStar from developer NCsoft. Also special are the exciting Fog of War and the top-down perspective, which let surprises lurk around every corner of the boundless open world for players! We took a closer look at the game.

The gameplay in Corepunk is reminiscent of a classic MMORPG as known from games like World of Warcraft. Players can choose from various heroes, including orcs, paladins, swordsmen and more, which can be made male or female as desired. In addition, players can choose from three different classes, each with up to 14 skills. As you would expect from an RPG, personalization is thus possible.

#8 Lost Ark - TOP10 NEW MMORPGS

Lost Ark: The MMORPG comes in 2021 via Amazon as publisher There are quite a few people waiting for the MMORPG Lost Ark, as it is a kind of Diablo meets online role-playing game. So far, nothing is known about a release in Europe and the US. Now, however, Amazon has been announced as the publisher of an online role-playing game from the developer studio.

Lost Ark was first announced in 2014. Like Diablo 3, it is an action role-playing game from an isometric perspective, in which you slaughter your way through masses of enemies. Typical MMO elements like raids, housing and an open world are also included. The opulent graphics and impressive effects are among Lost Ark's trademarks.

#7 Elyon: Ascent Infinite Realm - TOP10 NEW MMORPGS

Ascent: Infinite Realm is set in a high-fantasy steampunk world dominated by machines and magic. The inhabitants of this world rely on the ability to fly in order to explore, travel and conquer the world. In search of a new home, adventurers embark on a journey through A:IR's open world using a wide variety of airships, vehicles and flying mounts - whether on land or in the air. Five classes are planned: Sorceress, Mystic, Warlord, Assassin and Gunslinger.

The vehicles and mounts in A:IR not only serve as transportation, they also open up the Realm vs. Realm PvP mode to adventurers. In RvR faction battles, players can compete for glory, fly offensive and defensive maneuvers, and field numerous awesome flying machines. Mechs or anti-air artillery also enter the fray from the ground and air attacks are repelled, depending on the map and strategy played. Each faction has access to different combat tools such as cannons, mines and buffs to turn the tide in their favor. The combination of ground and air combat makes each battle exciting, strategically challenging, and dynamic.

#6 Project TL - TOP10 NEW MMORPGS

Why is Project TL so interesting? Although the MMORPG has been in development for years and there is very little info about the game, the interest among our readers on MeinMMO is still there.

One of the reasons might be the promised action-packed combat system in the ISO perspective. The gameplay is reminiscent of Diablo 3, but in a large game world and with many players. Lost Ark, which has finally found a publisher in the West with Amazon, also relies on the same principle.

In addition, the company behind Project TL is NCSoft, which has already developed good titles with Lineage, Blade & Soul and Aion and has published a well-known title with Guild Wars 2. It is one of the few companies that are trusted with the next big MMORPG. NCSoft has access to a lot of revenue, which was primarily generated via the mobile market.

#5 Crowfall - TOP10 NEW MMORPGS

With the unique gameplay that Crowfall offers with the campaigns and the class and talent system, it wants to settle accounts with the MMORPG genre. The features all seem promising in terms of long-term motivation. The campaigns encourage players to keep playing with new characters and try out new things. Bringing a new character to the highest level should also only take a weekend. This offers variety in gameplay. If you prefer to be creative, you can let loose in your Eternal Kingdom and create new scenes over and over again or devote yourself to role-playing. When other players open their kingdoms to strangers, there is also a lot to discover.

#4 Ashes of Creation - TOP10 NEW MMORPGS

Ashes of Creation is a new and very ambitious MMORPG that aims to combine PvE and PvP. In the game, everything revolves around the different areas, so-called nodes, which can be conquered, expanded and attacked by the players. For PvE players, there are many quests, dungeons and raids, while PvPers can let off steam in the battles for the nodes or for the huge fortresses, of which there are 5. In addition, there will always be PvP events in the open world, which you can participate in, but you don't have to. Zones in Ashes of Creation can be conquered and then expanded. A node starts with a small tent city and can then grow to a huge metropolis as players complete quests to gain experience points for the area.

#3 New World - TOP10 NEW MMORPGS

A highlight of New World is supposed to be the combat system, where you can quickly switch between weapons and fighting styles. Until now, this only worked to a certain extent, because several special attacks shared the same cooldown. That's over now: For example, you can trigger an ability with your axe, switch to your sword, and send its special attack after it without waiting. Weapon switching itself has also been sped up.

The main problem with New World is that it wants to make all types of players happy, and as a consequence, no one really feels like they're being addressed. The question is: for which feature should I play New World? PvP in the open world is now only optional, with mass battles taking place on separate battlegrounds. PvE fans wonder if the quests and professions offer enough motivation. So New World no longer has a real unique selling point. And it is precisely this lack of clarity that Amazon cannot afford.

#2 Project BBQ - TOP10 NEW MMORPGS

The action MMORPG was announced back in December 2018 and had already been in development for about a year at that point. The game is to be released exclusively for the PC and uses the Unreal Engine 4. It is based on the popular 2D brawler and hub MMO Dungeon Fighter Online. Elements such as story, classes and the action-packed battle system are said to come from DFO. According to the publisher Nexon, Project BBQ is supposed to be a real MMORPG with an open world.

#1 Crimson Desert - TOP10 NEW MMORPGS

Crimson Desert has to be taken seriously if only because it comes from the developers of a sales hit: Pearl Abyss' MMO Black Desert Online has been tried out by around 40 million players, according to the Korean developer's figures. The detailed character editor of the quasi-predecessor and the (once again improved) graphics engine are adopted by Crimson Desert, but everything else is new. The action adventure is primarily aimed at single players and is a prequel to the story of Black Desert Online.

You take on the role of the warrior Macduff (who can be female or male and belong to different races) and set out to reconquer your lost homeland. For this purpose, you'll gather a group of mercenaries around you, whose members will sometimes assist you in combat as NPCs and throw enemies in your direction, for example. Alternatively, you can go out with other players to increase your fame and fortune; Crimson Desert lets you share your single-player world with friends and strangers thanks to a permanent online connection.
